All Right? Outrageous Bursts of All Right

Outrageous Bursts of All Right were a series of related projects by All Right? that aimed to share some love and remind people to look after themselves and others during the rebuild. All Right? received support from various people and organisations to create unique one-off events that were then shared in print media and online through social media videos and photographs.

This collection contains material relating to Outrageous Bursts and similar projects, including promotional material, photographs and videos. For more related material, see 'All Right? Digital: Social Media': https://quakestudies.canterbury.ac.nz/store/collection/956

All Right? Outrageous Bursts of All Right: Bacon Bombing Signage
All Right? Outrageous Bursts of All Right: Bacon Bombing Signage
A PDF copy of the six signs that together read, "Share the love." The signs were used at the 'Outrageous Burst of All Right: Bacon Bombing' in December 2013. This saw team members from All Right? dress up as bacon butties and provide bacon butties for SCIRT workers. From allright.org.nz: SCIRT workers are tasked with the enormous job of rebuilding and repairing the damaged underground infrastructure and roads. With the help of Hellers and an anonymous giant bacon buttie, the All Right? team visited several SCIRT sites in December 2013 to show the workers a bit of (rather unusual) love. "In this Outrageous Burst of All Right? shoppers at Pak 'n Save Wainoni experienced an impromptu concert from the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra (CSO). As part of sharing the love shoppers also received grocery vouchers donated by Pak 'n Save. Outrageous Bursts of All Right? are designed to share a little love and bring smiles to Cantabrians as the region's recovery progresses. All Right? manager Sue Turner says that there are a lot of things about the recovery that cause frustration and stress. "Whether it's big, small or outrageous, the things we do for others can make a big difference," Ciaran Fox from the Mental Health Foundation says." (allright.org.nz)

All Right? Outrageous Bursts of All Right: Compliment Bombing
From allright.org.nz: This was one of our favourite Outrageous Bursts - the planning was huge. We took one petrol station (Z on Curletts Road), set up one fake radio station (All Right? FM) and surprised some totally unsuspecting customers with compliments, free fuel and our brand new massive All Righty heads. Sounds interesting? Check out the video below... All Right? Outrageous Bursts of All Right: Flower Bombing
From allright.org.nz: "This Outrageous Burst took place on 4th September 2012 and saw volunteers from the BNZ join the All Right? Team. Together we handed out thousands of roses donated by Moffats Flowers and hundreds of coffees donated by Underground Coffee. Our goal was to share a little love with some of the people who had been worst affected by the quakes, and who were helping with the recovery. We visited the call centre at EQC; Lyttelton Main, Lyttelton West and Phillipsotwn Schools; Eastgate Mall; and some of the city's SCIRT workers. Not only did we give the people we met that day a little boost, but thousands of others have felt good watching the video we created of it!" (allright.org.nz)

All Right? Outrageous Bursts of All Right: Superhero Surprise
All Right? Outrageous Bursts of All Right: Superhero Surprise
From allright.org.nz: International super heroes swarmed 5 wards at Christchurch Hospital surprising children and families inside. WAS IT A BIRD? WAS IT A PLANE? NO IT WAS... Batman and Spiderman scaling the walls of Christchurch Hospital ahead of a top secret mission! The international superheroes snuck into the quake hit city yesterday after answering a code red call from Christchurch's superhero Flatman. A video of the superheroes' mission has been released - now that the superheroes are a safe distance from the city. "Canterbury still needs love and who better to provide it then the world's best known superheroes?" says Flatman. Flatman, Batman and Spiderman were joined by Iron Man, Mr Incredible, Captain America, Superwoman and the Black Widow in their mission. After abseiling down the side of the hospital, they swarmed five wards surprising the children and families inside. "There are so many people like these families in Christchurch who are going through some really tough times. Our mission was to show how little things can bring joy to people, even when they're in really stressful situations," says Flatman. The mission was a hit. Free superhero cupcakes for all (courtesy of The Cupcake Collection), sword fights, bubbles and a whole lot of smiles. The All Right? project (which works to support and improve Cantabrians mental health and wellbeing as we recover and rebuild) helped accommodate the superheroes while they were in Christchurch and filmed the mission as part of its Outrageous Burst of All Right series. Manager Sue Turner is delighted with how the mission went/ "It really shows how little things can mean a lot to people - even when times are tough for them. We know we can't solve the myriad of complex issues Cantabrians are facing but we can all do things to brighten their days," says Sue Turner. Sadly, Sue Turner says the superheroes were unable to rebuild the central city while they were here. "They had a good look around though and have offered to come back to hang the city council's Christmas decorations if a sponsor's not found before December,"€ she smiles.
