It will host rugby union, rugby league and football games, rugby union test matches, community and cultural events and music concerts. Much of the infrastructure for this temporary stadium has been sourced by Central Government from other New Zealand venues. The four light towers were decommissioned from Dunedin's Carisbrook ground, transported by truck, refurbished in Christchurch then installed at Christchurch Stadium.
