The land close to the Avon River has severe issues with slumping, lateral movement and liquefaction, so that much of it is red zoned and the houses will be demolished".

There used to be an attractive walk alongside the loop of the River. Much of the path is now under water as the land level has subsided as a result of the earthquakes".
