Operating within the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, the Christchurch Central Development Unit (CCDU) was responsible for the recovery of Christchurch's central city.

This narrative chronicles the recovery of the central city between April 2011 and November 2015, including the period before CCDU was established, its first 100 days, and the development and implementation of the Christchurch Central Recovery Plan (the Recovery Plan).

dc.description: In April 2012, the Government established the Christchurch Central Development Unit (CCDU), as part of CERA. CCDU's role was to lead recovery of the central city. The Christchurch Central Recovery Plan (CCRP), including the Blueprint, was the key planning document for the recovery of the central city. The CCDU Communications team used a number of different communications and engagement methods.

Creating a legacy of social housing

dc.description

This report tells the story of how Housing New Zealand responded to the aftermath of the earthquakes, the formation of its Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Programme (CERP) and the impacts the earthquakes had on its properties, thousands of tenants and its own staff.

Housing New Zealand was the owner of more than 6,000 properties in Christchurch and in the Waimakariri District. It was the largest landlord in Canterbury and looked after 18,000 tenants.

Resilience tested: A year and a half of ten thousand aftershocks

dc.description

Resilience Tested is a companion to Shaken but not Stirred. It tells the story of the University of Canterbury (UC) following the earthquake on 22 February 2011.

The earthquake caused immediate evacuation of the UC campus and resulted in significant damage to many buildings.

The report serves two purposes; to retain an institutional memory of what was learnt during the recovery period, and also to share these learnings with other organisations in New Zealand and around the world.
